Augmented Feedback is an important concept which intersects movement sciences, rehabilitation therapy, and psychology. Augmentative (extrinsic or external) feedback that comes from an outside source such as a coach, therapist, device, or biofeedback system, augments or supplements intrinsic cues and is especially important in early skill learning.

This module discusses the importance of augmented feedback in speech and physical therapy including the use of a calibrated feedback device which can provide targeted training for vocal strengthening for patients with Parkinson’s disease or a related diagnosis, who present with a primary motor speech symptom of hypophonia.
The results of acoustic data collected during speech therapy treatment will be discussed, and examples provided of how self-vocalization at target loudness is a validated low-tech strategy which can facilitate speech and movement.

Learning Objectives - participants will:
• Identify common reasons for hypophonia.
• Describe how augmented feedback can facilitate skills learning.
• Incorporate self-vocalization as a cue for enhancing speech and movement.
• Integrate a calibrated feedback tool into existing standardized protocols and hybrid treatments for patients with hypophonia.
